Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 4, 2026.
Elijah Pereira runs Good Samaritan. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.
What we collect
- Account details: name, email, password if you set one (stored only as a one-way hash), mobile number if you give one, the account identifier Apple or Google sends if you sign in with them (plus Apple's private relay email if you choose Hide My Email), region and neighborhood, a short bio, skills, availability, whether you have a car.
- Your photo: a profile photo so neighbors know who's coming. We remove location and camera data (EXIF) from every photo you upload.
- What you post: requests, offers, events, stories, prayers, board posts, praise, comments, messages and photos.
- Exact addresses: if you add an exact address to a request, it is shown only to the helper you accept (and our admins for safety). Everyone else sees the general area.
- Activity: help offered and completed, hours given, events joined, notifications, reports and blocks.
- Device: a push-notification token if you turn notifications on; basic technical logs (IP address, browser/app version) for security.
We do not collect precise GPS location, contacts, payment information, or advertising identifiers. We do not sell your data or show third-party ads.
Why we use it
To run the app (match requests with helpers, show events, send notifications), to keep people safe (verification, moderation, investigating reports), to answer support requests, and to understand overall usage so we can improve.
Who we share it with
- Other members: your first name and last initial, photo, neighborhood, bio, skills and the things you post. Your email, phone number and exact address are not shown publicly.
- Service providers who host and run the app for us: hosting and database, file storage, email delivery and text-message verification, only if we turn them on (e.g. Resend, Twilio), sign-in providers you choose (Apple, Google), push notifications (Apple/Google). They may only use the data to provide their service.
- Legal and safety: when required by law, or to protect someone's safety.
Public share pages
When you share a request, event or story - or a member shares one that you marked shareable - a public page and preview image are created. They show the title, description, first name and general area only. You can turn sharing off on any post or delete it.
How long we keep it
While your account is open. When you delete your account we delete or anonymize your profile and the content you posted within 30 days, except where we must keep limited records for safety or legal reasons (for example, a record that an account was banned).
Your choices
- Edit your profile at any time.
- Turn email or push notifications on or off in My Hub > Settings.
- Download your data in My Hub > Settings > Download my data.
- Delete your account in My Hub > Settings > Delete account. See how deletion works.
- Email privacy@goodsamaritanapp.com with any privacy request.
Children
Good Samaritan is for people 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone younger. If you believe a minor has an account, email safety@goodsamaritanapp.com and we will remove it.
